Court of Appeal decision in Henry-v-NGN

​The Court of Appeal have allowed recovery of costs considerably over the budgeted spend. This is the first major judgment in relation to budgeting, finding that there was good reason to depart from the original budget. The Appeal was a preliminary issue as to whether there was “good reason” to depart from the appellant’s original budget, the appellant’s costs exceeded the budget by some almost £269,000 before additional liabilities. Government announces postponement of extension of RTA Portal

​The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) has postponed its controversial plans to extend the Road Traffic Accident portal scheme to personal injury claims worth up to £25,000, including employer and public liability claims. The 1 April target date has been postponed with no indication given for the new timetable. An MoJ spokesperson said:‬ ‪“Earlier this year the government announced proposals to extend the road traffic accident scheme for personal injury claims to £25,000. ‪‬“Following a legal challenge the Justice Secretary is now considering afresh the timing for implementation of the extended scheme.”‬
